New illustration for the new year! Limited edition prints of ‘Before Sunrise’ will be available in January from Art in the Heart.

Today is the last day of the Fresh Take exhibition at Burghley house. It’s been an amazing project to be involved in and to see my work on display in such a prestigious building. The Danse Macabre Zoetrope was well received and I’ve heard some great feedback about the exhibition and all the artists who took part.

I had a great time at the Eye Candy Arts festival last week. I completed my first collaboration piece with Amanda Rigby for Paper Rhino. The final piece incorporates important visual elements from the Birmingham South side area such as China Town and the Royal Ballet.

Next week I’ll be painting at the Eye Candy Festival in Birmingham from the 31st of October. I’ll be producing my first collaboration piece with Amanda Rigby from Paper Rhino. Here’s a sneak peek at the work in progress…

My work responds to the macabre imagery on display at Burghley house. Images such as The Hell Staircase, painted in 1686-1697, at a time when life expectancy was low and death was a familiar subject. I will explore the close relationship people had with death and illustrate the fragility of life during this period.

The work will consist of an Illustrated Danse Macabre (Dance of death) brought to life in a zoetrope animation. A zoetrope is a circular animation device which creates the illusion of motion when spun. The device will be 24 inches in diameter with viewing slits cut around the outside and illustrated frames on the inside. The viewing slits around the circumference act as a shutter to the human eye, preventing individual images from blurring together when spun. This will transform my static illustrated frames into an animated dance with death.

I’m currently working on something very special for an upcoming exhibition at Burghley House. It’s called Fresh Take and I will be exhibiting with 5 other local artists. Check out the link below for more info and updates as the project develops… and don’t forget to like the page:)

I’m back from Bristol after a great weekend of painting in the sun at UPFEST. I managed to get my piece done on the Saturday and have a good look around the festival on Sunday. This year was even bigger than the last and the talent on show was immense. I’m ready now for a summer of spray painting and can’t wait for next years UPFEST.

Also congrats to MyDogSighs for winning artist of the year, well deserved!

It’s here, UPFEST 2013! I’ll be painting all weekend and hopefully taking part in the POSCA Live illustration battle. Pics to come:)
